Dr. Karis Langvand

What is a Doctor of Chiropractic:

Chiropractors are extensively educated in the prevention, assessment, diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal conditions and associated neurological conditions. A chiropractor will recommend a course of treatment, based on the initial exam findings, to help relieve pain and improve
function using joint manipulation, joint mobilization, soft tissue therapy, exercise, education, and rehabilitation. Chiropractors are also trained to provide nutritional counseling, as well as recommend injury prevention strategies.

Specific training in spinal manipulative therapy allows chiropractors to use highly-skilled and precise movements to the joints of the spine and the extremities in order to correct joint motion and restore proper movement and function.

Dr. Langvand was born and raised in Red Deer, Alberta. She attended Red Deer College and the University of Calgary where she completed three years in a Bachelor of Kinesiology program. Dr. Langvand then spent the next four years attending the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, Ontario to obtain her degree as a Doctor of Chiropractic. As a lifelong athlete and international fencer, she attributes chiropractic care as a key factor in her successes. As a member of the profession, she
hopes to play that pivotal role for her patients, helping them lead active and fulfilling lives. She is an advocate for wellness promotion and is passionate about helping her patients achieve optimal levels of health. I

n addition to her passion for healthcare management, Dr. Langvand also has a deep love for animals. She boards her horse, Coal, in Springbank and owns a longhaired Chihuahua, Penny, and a
Boston Bulldog, Rosie. She is excited to be back in Calgary and is eager to provide chiropractic and holistic care to her community.

More details about my approach to treatment:

I provide a combination of manual care and rehabilitation tailored to each of my patients’ specific needs. My approach to care is head-to-toe assessment and treatment. I look at the body as whole, understanding that each system within the body is connected. I am passionate about inspiring patients to become active participants in their own well-being and allowing them to reclaim their lives feeling energized and free of pain. I utilize many forms of treatment including mobilizations and manipulations, soft tissue therapies including: Muscle Release Therapy, Instrument Assisted soft tissue therapy, Myofascial Cupping and Rock taping (kinesiology taping), as well as education and rehabilitation. I have additional training in the Webster technique for pregnancy, as well as caring for the pediatric and elderly patient. Each visit is completely individualized and tailored specifically to what that patient presents with the day of treatment.

Each patient has different needs. What works for one may not work for another, and it’s my job tofigure out what works best for YOU: how to make YOU feel better.

As a teenager I benefited from chiropractic care. Not only did it help me throughout my athletic career as an international fencer with Team Canada, but it just made me feel GOOD! Chiropractic taught me how to listen to my body and the importance of taking care of it. I relied heavily on my chiropractor whether it was physical, mental, or emotional and she was able to help me through numerous injuries, as well as keep me at my best physical state and capacity.

I absolutely love helping my patients overcome conditions or injuries, or simply just help them feel good. I always incorporate education for my patients on their condition, their bodies as a whole, and also on the chiropractic profession itself. I became a chiropractor so that I could be what my chiropractor was, and still is, to me. I want to be that person to my patients: a practitioner than listens, cares and always puts the patient first. I vowed to myself when I became a chiropractor that I would always be the best I could be to my patients, to myself, and to never stop learning.

I am so excited to start this next chapter with Better Medical, to work side by side with other amazing healthcare practitioners and to better myself as a chiropractor for my patients. I look forward to meeting you and helping you reach your health goals!
