Researchers at the University of Toronto have been testing CoQ-10, a well-known addition to many anti-aging creams, to document results on other areas of the body.

Their positive results have paved the way for testing that includes 50 women over 35 years of age. Researchers are excited about the promise this treatment offers to older women who want to conceive.

CoQ-10 is an enzyme that occurs naturally in the body. It’s strong antioxidant qualities boost the energy output of mitochondria and help repair them. C0Q-10 is also a potential treatment in neurological disorders, cancers, diseases of the heart, muscles and gums.

You can experience the beneficial qualities of CoQ-10 now since, as a dietary supplement, it is available without a prescription.

Your Energy?

Your Mental Agility??

Your Sex Drive???

Yes, a lot of things go ‘down’ as you get older. That is, if you simply accept that it is ‘normal’ to wear out as you get older. In fact, some things ‘go soft’ – not just what you may think about; but your abdomen, your mood, your bones.

Hormones are the secret chemicals of life; performance, and longevity. When your hormones are balanced; you can ‘Get it up’ and feel and look younger.

Key players in healthy aging are: Cortisol, Insulin, thyroid hormone; DHEA; testosterone; growth hormone.

This post will focus on cortisol and testosterone.

When your stress hormone CORTISOL goes up; all your hormones and how they function are affected. If the stress is prolonged; (like when you have long work hours, a second job; kids to co-ordinate and get to activities; chores to do and a social life to keep up with; let alone church, gym, volunteer projects and such) your normal balance of hormones that keep you performing at your peak is disrupted.

Cortisol, when it remains high for prolonged periods of time, creates a ‘tear down’ state that is greater than your ‘buildup/ repair’ state.

Symptoms that could appear: (when your levels are sub-optimal; but not deficient)

Low energy

Weight gain

Low sex drive

Erectile dysfunction

Sugar and caffeine dependence

Irritable mood

(Always see your doctor to rule out any medical problems)

What you can do:

See your doctor to rule out important conditions like diabetes, anemia, autoimmune disorders.

Manage your stress: choose to lower your load; practice meditation and yoga. Laugh.

Take B complex, Vit C and Magnesium to replete your cellular energy cycle; and adaptogenic herbs like Ginseng and Holy Basil.

TESTOSTERONE

Many men start to make lower levels of testosterone after age 35-40. Being ‘in the normal range’ doesn’t mean much. You could be used to functioning at levels closer to the upper end of the range than lower. I have male patients with levels below the 25th percentile, with symptoms of low testosterone. In younger men, I recommend tribulis and other nutrients to help them make more testosterone with good results.

In men older than 40; after a series of tests, we replace testosterone carefully; watching the metabolites to ensure safety and health protection.

Symptoms of low testosterone:

Tired

Abdominal weight gain

Irritability

Mood symptoms

Low endurance and stamina

Loss of muscle strength and bulk

Difficulty building muscle

Low libido and erectile dysfunction.

Low testosterone is also related to low blood sugar control (diabetic men have improved control of their blood sugar levels when testosterone is optimized, and heart disease risk is lowered in men with optimal testosterone levels).

The opinion expressed in this post is within the parameters of Functional and Regenerative Medicine practice; and is not meant to diagnose or treat any conditions. Please consult your doctor before starting any natural health therapies for any condition.

Skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer, even higher than breast and lung cancer.

Is simply being in the sun the cause of skin cancer???

Cancer occurs when a normal cell becomes abnormal during the replication cycle. Every day, you are replacing cells and every few years; your entire body is not the same since all cells are eventually replaced with new ones.

If this abnormal cell continues to replicate, a mass of abnormal cells develops. This is what forms a cancerous lesion or mass.

So, for Skin Cancer, or any cancer for that matter; you need to form an abnormal cell during replication.

What usually protects you?

A healthy immune system is the first step; since this walls off abnormal cells and ensures it does not turn into a cancerous mass. At any point in time; up to 2% of cells in your body are ‘precancer’ or damaged and can become cancer. Not everyone develops cancer because your body is designed to stop the abnormal cell replication cycle in its tracks.

When your body has an adequate supply of anti-oxidants; these ‘mop up’ cell damage and help you make normal cells.

The sun is not your enemy. Why did your forefathers, who lived in an age without sunblock; and worked and toiled in the outdoors not have such a high incidence of skin cancer, or any cancer for that matter?

Because the factors that lead to cancer are MANY. Join me in my workshop to learn more about the steps you can take to lower your risk for cancer and improve your longevity.

In the meantime; here are some steps to take to enjoy your time in the sun without increasing your risk for cancer:

1. Eat a diet rich in anti-oxidants. Deeply colored fruit and vegetables should form the greater part of your food-style.

2. Take Vitamin C. Vitamins A, C, E are potent anti-oxidants. (Substances that fight free radicals thereby protecting your cells).

3. Supplement your Vitamin D: More than 90% of Canadians have low levels of Vit D, regardless of how much sun they get. The use of sunblock further reduces your ability to make Vit D in the sun.

Take 2000-5000iu a day to reach optimal levels; have your doctor check your levels to avoid overdosing.

4. Resveratrol is a powerful anti-oxidant shown to help you regenerate healthy cells.

http://better4life.ca/shop/brain-energy-and-memory/resveratrol/

5. Spend time wisely in the sun and avoid burning. If your immune system is healthy; you take adequate care of your nutrition and you consult a physician trained in the area of Natural Health; you should be able to enjoy the sun without increased risk.

How would you like to have a movie star glow in 10 seconds?

An article in the Winnipeg Free Press is speaking about turning 40, and our looks ‘going south’ and how to deal with that. It gave an interesting perspective.

At Chronos Apollo we believe that aging is optional… what about you?

Here is the link to the article. I will share a few hints of my own with you about skin care.

My aim is to get you to question and research everything – even what you read in the news, because remember, it is written by someone with a certain perspective and angle.

There is much more to looking younger than simply trying to camouflage with some makeup. YOU CAN VISIBLY MAKE YOUR SKIN CELLS YOUNGER BY FEEDING YOUR CELLS CERTAIN VITAL NUTRIENTS.

You can also enhance your skin cells by applying certain key ingredients to your skin in a safe cream.

MOST SKIN CARE PRODUCTS CONTAIN HORMONE DISRUPTORS THAT CAN ADD TO YOUR CANCER RISK.

Here is the article from the Winnipeg Free Press

I will keep you posted with commentary on the latest health news in the media; and offer you my own medical and scientific opinion. It is my opinion, and you can formulate your own with your own research, once you have more than one side of a story.

There is some good advice in this article: however – you CAN determine the rate at which you continue to age; and you CAN slow the look of aging.
Makeup and skin care products can only do so much… your cells are still dry, damaged and ugly.

Are you stuck with trying to cover up and camouflage?
NOOOOOO!!!!!
You can reduce the appearance of red spots, age spots, blemishes, freckles, early wrinkles and dull leathery looking skin. You can gently improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Email client services for your report on how to slow the appearance of aging.
(‘Secrets to slow the appearance of aging” in subject line)AGING STARTS EARLY.

Most aging starts with unprotected sun exposure before age 18… if you were a sun bunny – you have work to catch up on!
To GET RID OF SUN DAMAGE and reverse the signs of aging of your skin, consider photorejuvenation. You will be amazed at your beautiful, healthy skin.

Get rid of the surface damage you have and then use makeup that helps you with the aging process. Use a potent skin care line and you will look years younger than you are.

Photorejuvenation with BBL is scientifically proven to help restore your skin’s health and remove sun damage, reduce the appearance of premature aging, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles with gentle collagen stimulation.

THERMAGE is an incredible age defying treatment that will visibly make your skin younger, firmer and tighter. At Chronos Apollo, we specialise in helping slow down aging of your skin from the inside and out. See results immediately and over the next 6 months – you can get visibly younger with Thermage at Chronos Apollo.

Til next time,
